Joel McKinnon is the Owner and President of McKinnon Insurance, where he leads with vision, experience, and a strong commitment to both his clients and his team. A graduate of Ashland University, Joel earned his degree in Management and Marketing in 2003. During his college years, he was a member of the Ashland University football team and participated in the Eagle Investment Group—experiences that shaped his leadership style and business acumen. It was also at Ashland where he met his future wife, Tricia Herzig-McKinnon.

Even before graduation, Joel secured a contract with Farmers Insurance, launching what would become a successful and impactful career in the insurance industry. Since founding McKinnon Insurance, Joel has grown the agency into one of the leading providers of Commercial insurance in Ohio, proudly overseeing the largest Commercial insurance portfolio in the state. Under his leadership, the agency has earned a reputation for excellence, integrity, and customer-focused service.

Joel’s professional accolades include consistent recognition as an Elite Commercial Agent by Farmers Insurance since 2008, along with numerous honors such as the Blue Vase Award, Life Masters, Topper Club, Championship, and Presidents Council distinctions. Beyond the agency, Joel is a respected voice in the industry, frequently invited to speak on social media marketing at Farmers Insurance events and conferences across the country.

Joel and his wife, Tricia, live in Dover, Ohio, where they raise their three children—Jack, Stone, and Klaire. Deeply invested in his community, Joel actively supports local youth programs, coaches sports, and volunteers with area charities. His leadership, both in business and in the community, reflects a commitment to making a positive impact wherever he can.
