Cool car apps

August14_blurb04Smartphones have changed our lives, including the way we view and use our cars. And as smartphone apps continue to evolve and become more sophisticated, they provide increased opportunities for efficiency and entertainment. Below is a list of a few of our favorite automotive apps available today. Remember to drive safely — check out these apps before you start driving:

Witness Driving —Convert your smartphone to a dash cam. In addition to the looping record function, Witness Driving logs time, date, speed, location and acceleration. Dash cams are a great way to protect you from insurance fraudsters, bad drivers and even an undeserved ticket. Available for $.99 for Apple and Android.

Cost2Drive — Wonder whether it’s cheaper to drive or to fly? The Cost2Drive app lets you estimate your driving costs based on real-time gas prices, and weighs those expenses against the price of air travel, based on airline information from Kayak.com. Available free for Apple and Android.

iWrecked — After an accident, iWrecked prompts you to take photos and notes in the accident log section, keeps track of insurance and driver contact information, and directs you to local taxi or towing companies. It can generate a PDF accident report with images for future use. Available free for Apple and Android.

CarXpenses — Don’t wonder anymore about your fuel economy, service due dates or maintenance costs. CarXpenses helps you keep track of all vehicles expenses. Available for $1.99 for Apple products.
